Men's Walk to Emmaus
March 8-11, 2012, Helena, MT
Everyone who attends the Walk to Emmaus is sponsored by someone who has already attended. This gives you a partner to help you with travel, expectations, prayer, or with things that need to be done at home while you are gone. Information about sponsorship and applications can be obtained from the Helena Emmaus Community.
The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to develop servant-leadership skills for use in the local church and to strengthen the discipleship of church people. "The Walk" is not an evangelistic outreach to the nonbeliever. It is intended to inspire, challenge, and equip local church members for Christian action - in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities. Emmaus is grounded theologically and institutionally in The Upper Room ministry unit of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church.
There is a 72-hour walk for men on one weekend and another 72-hour walk for women on a subsequent weekend. participants, also known as "pilgrims", enjoy three busy days of singing, listening to thought-provoking talks, laughing, worshipping, and participating in small groups and lots of eating! To foster the spirit kindled on the Walk and to continue spiritual growth after the weekend, small groups form for prayer and fellowship. These are called Fourth Day Groups".
